Runnels 2019 National Merit Semifinalists Announced
Seniors Kayla Evans, Anna Kadi, Daniel Mayeaux, and Emma Tooraen have been named Semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program, and Alex Morgan, also a senior, has qualified as a Commended Student.
Our Semifinalists remain in the program to vie for Finalist standing and the opportunity to compete for scholarships worth more than $31 million. Although Commended Students do not remain in the competition, they are presented with Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise and may become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, approximately 1.6 million high school juniors entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of these, approximately 16,000 qualified to be Semifinalists. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors.
Congratulations to all of our 2019 National Merit Students! Kayla Evans is the daughter of Rachel and Brian Evans, Anna Kadi is the daughter of Lisa and Joe Kadi, Daniel Mayeaux is the son of Susan and Keith Mayeaux, Alex Morgan is the son of Norma Marsh and Craig Morgan, and Emma Tooraen is the daughter of Tish Karl and John Tooraen.
