Curriculum
Our curriculum is varied and comprehensive, and presented within a departmentalized structure. Each student benefits from the complementary approaches of six to nine different teachers with classes in reading, math, language arts, science, social studies, physical education, art, drama, chorus, ballet, band, string orchestra, and Harp. The school day also includes cutting-edge technology lessons throughout the curriculum.
Students wear casual clothes instead of uniforms, and it’s important to us that our students are comfortable, safe and happy. While we do not teach any particular religion, we do teach religious tolerance. Children of all races, religions, and nationalities are welcome and appreciated in our school family.
Elementary 4th-6th Schedule
Our upper elementary students have 7 fifty-minute classes. The core subjects taught are Math (some students work in above grade level Math classes), Reading, English, Spelling, Science, Social Studies and elective classes. All 4-6th grade students have enrichment classes they may choose to take. They may choose from the following classes: Drama, Art, Band, Strings, Harp, Chorus, Ballet, & Physical Education. Upper Elementary students have lunch at 11:50, and after lunch they enjoy a 20 minute mid-day recess. The elementary students eat in their classrooms with their teachers in a family-like setting.
Enrollment
Admission to Runnels Elementary School is based on application supported by interview, entrance testing, and records from previously attended schools.
In addition to the admission requirements that an applicant must meet, parents of applicants are reminded that enrollment agreements are contracts between the school and the parents. Parents, therefore, must present themselves as both financially responsible and eager to cooperate with school policies, programs and decisions. Runnels School admits students of any race, color, religion, or national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.
