Runnels School and the arts have been close friends since the
founding of the school in 1965. Our
unique program, serving preschoolers through high school students preparing for
college, has always reflected the high value we place on the role of the arts
in human experience.
Music

Runnels students participate in many diverse music
programs from preschool through high school.
The band program begins in the fourth grade and continues through
high school.
Elementary, junior, and senior high students study
choral music and perform at concerts throughout the
year.
Theater
Runnels students often appear
in local theater productions, and at the
Dramatic productions take place throughout the year at both the
Junior and Senior High levels. Awards have been earned at the Baton Rouge
Little Theater Duet Acting Festival.
The Runnels Theater for Performing Arts is a first-class facility
for presentations of all kinds.
The opportunity
to perform in public through dance, music, theater or any of the many other
possible ways is a valued part of the educational experience at Runnels
School.
Runnels junior and senior high school students may elect
to study modern dance or ballet.
Beginning in the first grade, students
study drama and regularly perform for student and parent audiences.
The junior
and senior high students stage several major productions in the Theater for
Performing Arts each year that attract audiences from throughout the
community.
The award-winning band regularly wins awards at the solo and ensemble
festivals. The Runnels Band is always well represented in the E. B. R. Parish
Honor Band.
Major concerts are performed in winter and
spring.
