Upper Elementary Overview
The years from 4th grade through 6th grade are an important time for self-discovery. Students develop their interests, learn new talents, and face challenges unique to their age group. During these years, students become more self-reliant as they develop into creative problem solvers and critical thinkers. As this occurs, it is important that students have the support of a nurturing learning environment that fosters kindness, respect and inclusiveness.
At Runnels, classes are kept small and the curriculum is presented within a departmentalized framework, with students benefiting from the complementary approaches of six to nine different teachers, who instruct in their own areas of professional expertise. Students eat lunch in their classrooms with their teachers in a family-like setting with a 20 minute recess following the lunch period. A hot lunch delivery program is available through Runnels School Services. Uniforms are not required, and dress is casual.
The “Raider Star” Program All Runnels students in grades 1-6 participate in the “Raider Star” program, which is designed to encourage admirable behaviors, such as being kind, respectful, compassionate, and helpful.
The “Raider Star" program is our way of showing students that we appreciate and celebrate good behavior! It has an energy that is moving every day all through the year!
