Elementary Library Volunteers, “BOOKENDS”  

The elementary librarians are assisted by a volunteer group of parents known as the "Bookends." This group reads selected books to the students and assists with Accelerated Reader quizzes. Volunteers may also shelve and repair books, and help the librarians with book fairs and other special fundraising events such as the Used Book Sale, Raider Rally, and the Scholastic Book Fairs.

Proceeds from these special events are used to expand library holdings. "Bookends" and "Book Fair Coordinators" work with the elementary librariasn through the PAR (Parent Organization of Runnels).

Celebration Book Club

The Celebration Book Club was created to give members of the Runnels School family a way to celebrate an occasion, honor an event, or remember a loved one through a book donation to the library. Your donation will be used to purchase a book of your choice.  A bookplate will be made and placed in the newly acquired book announcing your participation and honoring your loved one or special occasion. Please contact the elementary librarian (225.751.5712/ if you would like to participate in our Celebration Book Club.

Redemption Programs

The Elementary Library participates in several ongoing commercial label redemption programs. We often receive as much as $2,000 per year for the purchase of library books and materials from these programs. A list of the redemption programs in which we participate follows:

General Mills Box Tops For Education  Clip box tops from hundreds of General Mills products.  Each box top is worth 10 cents.  For a list of eligible General Mills products, click here to link to the Box Tops for Education site for more information.  There is also a Box Tops Bonus App that can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store.  You just scan your grocery receipt to earn credit.  You also can clip the label on the product which will earn double the points.

Community Cash For Schools  Save UPCs/barcodes from all Community, CC's and Private Reserve products available at the following locations: Grocery Stores, Supermarkets and Other Participating Retail Outlets - All coffee products, tea products, creamer, sugar and coffee filters contain eligible UPCs (worth up to 15 cents). Restaurants, hotels, offices, and businesses - boxes of coffee and coffee related products delivered to restaurants, hotels, and other businesses contain high-value UPCs (worth up to 75 cents).
