Runnels Art Teacher Wins Award at River Road Show
Runnels art teacher Sydney McGraw has won an award for her artwork at the 2019 River Road Show at the Louisiana State Archives Gallery. She was presented with a Merit Award for her still-life entitled “Rare” at a reception for the show held Aug. 29 at the archives.
The national juried art competition, now in its 50th year, is sponsored by the Art Guild of Louisiana. Only 70 paintings out of 339 entries were selected for the exhibit. The 121 artists with work in the show represented 13 states.
Mrs. McGraw, a Runnels alumnae (Class of ‘10), is a painter, illustrator, and educator. She holds a BFA from the LSU School of Art and Design and teaches painting and sculpture at Runnels. Mrs. McGraw is also the illustrator of the children’s book, Joshua the Rescue Kitty, released in 2016 and available on Amazon.
The 50th Annual River Road Show, which is free and open to the public, runs through Sept. 19 at the archives, 3851 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA. The exhibition is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
