Runnels to Honor Veterans with Two Musical Tributes Nov. 11
Runnels Elementary School will follow its long-standing tradition of honoring veterans in its school family and throughout the community with a “Musical Tribute to Veterans” on Monday, Nov. 11 in the Gladys Hague Runnels Theater, 17255 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road. at 9:00 a.m.
The program will feature performances by the 6th- and 8th-Grade Bands, Elementary String Orchestra, Harp Choir, and the General Music Class Chorus. A reception for veterans and their guests will be held in the foyer of the Theatre from 8:00 a.m. -9:00 a.m.
At 11:20 a.m., the junior high and high school will present a program of patriotic music in the Theatre with performances by the Advanced Band, Advanced String Orchestra, Jr./Sr. High Harp Choir, and the 7th-12th-Grade Band. A reception for veterans and their guests will be held in the foyer of the Theatre from 10:45 a.m. - 11:20 a.m.
An original musical composition, “Prayer for Runnels” written by the Rev. Dr. Julius “Tip” Tipton will have its world premiere at the Jr./Sr. High program. An ensemble students in the Advanced Jr./Sr. High Band and the Advanced String Orchestra will perform the piece.
At both assemblies, veterans and those currently serving in the military in the audience will be invited to stand for recognition when the anthem of their branch of the service is played.
