Raiders Earn All-State Basketball Team Honors


Sophomore Collin Coates has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s (LSWA) Class B All-State basketball team. The 6-foot-6 guard, who averages 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, made the boys second team.
Runnels senior Ben Holliday, a point guard, was selected as an Honorable Mention. His average contribution per game is 15.0 points. 
 According to The Advocate, Raiders’ head coach Ben Young, who steered the team to a Division V runner-up title, the first ever in the school’s history, was in contention for LSWA Coach of the Year. 
Runnels went into the title game held March 13 at Istrouma High as the No. 2 seed in Division V with eight straight victories to its credit. The team fell to top-seeded Jehovah-Jireh, 64-45.
The Raiders finished the season as state runner-up, closing the book on the era of Runnels basketball with an extraordinary and unforgettable season.
